I was chuffed to learn her thoughts on this matter, especially since (as I think I mentioned here once before) I spent a good deal of Bouchercon entertaining my fellow convention-goers with whimsical titles. "All you have to do now is write the books," I'd tell them. Now someone may take me up on it.
State of the Onion is a terrific title; I'd have been proud to come up with it.
Thanks, Paul. The title "State of the Onion" is structured like a little joke, the payoff coming at the end, like a good punch line. And it's a hell of a good punch line.

This blog is a proud winner of the 2009 Spinetingler Award for special services to the industry and its blogkeeper a proud former guest on Wisconsin Public Radio's Here on Earth. In civilian life I'm a copy editor in Philadelphia. When not reading crime fiction, I like to read history. When doing neither, I like to travel. When doing none of the above, I like listening to music or playing it, the latter rarely and badly.

Hey, that's pretty cool, Peter. I think she'd be wise to go with it.
Her books have started to take off here in the store since the Anthony award. More power to her.

You're single-handedly reshaping the crime fiction genre, Peter.
Oh, now don't say that. I believe that authors have and will continue to have an important role to play in the production of books.
That's the kind of profession I'd love to have!
I have already offered my services. The story of my life in the titling profession will be ghost-written, of course.
Next time I need a title I'll come to you - and put you in the acknowledgments unless you pay me not to.
I hope I can attain success on the James Patterson level and pay someone to come up with titles for me.
Haven't there been a few scandals in the UK involving the selling of titles?
My title-hawking will be entirely above board.
Smashing. State of the Onion is also a great title.
Whey to go, Peter!
