Overheard on O'Connell Street after the hurling final ...
... though the second remark may have had nothing to do with the game:

"The first two minutes were excitin'. Then it got a bit shite, didn't it?"
-- Waterford fan enjoying a reflective sip outside a pub
"Ah, you better believe it. He must be on the piss today again."
-- Older lady into a cell phone, her rooting interest uncertain

Lovely.
I still find it hard to take seriously a sport sharing a name with the messy after effects of drinking way too much...
Vanya, I admit sharing a certain occasional amusement at the sport's name. Apropos of drinking, though, I had visions of post- and pre-match rowdiness along the lines of European soccer violence. But there was nothing of the kind. Families attended the game. Supporters of the two teams mingled in good fellowship. And among the crowds of Kilkenny supporters cheering for their team after the game was a group of grade-school-age children. This was the happiest and most peaceful sporting celebration I have ever seen or been part of.
