A Thrilling Reference Site
Well, Blogger apparently does not like to accept posts during daylight hours. If this post ever sees the light of day, the Thrilling Detective Web Site has a massive directory of fictional private eyes, some of them international. You'll find Peter Temple's Jack Irish there, for instance. The site is set up for easy scrolling -- find a name that intrigues you, click on it, and you may find your to-read list growing. Each entry has a short descriptive article, a list of books and stories, and ample cross-referencing.

I thought it was my firewall, but it is obviously all you Americans waking up in a different time zone!
Thanks very much for your recommendations and links.
A number of us over here on this side of the Atlantic have noticed frustrating delays the last couple of days. I'll stick with Blogger . . . for now.
And you're welcome. I just bought one of Jonathan Gash's Lovejoy novels -- off a recommendation someome made here.
I started out on Blogger and in the end got so fed up with it I switched to Typepad, though you have to pay $4.99 a month (after a 30 day free trial) it seems pretty stable, touch wood.
however, I also have a couple of blogs on wordpress which is free and very good. (wordpress.com). I can recommend it, and they have an automatic system for transferring all your content over from Blogger.
have you tried Blogger beta? It has subject categories which I adore. I just started a new blog at the weekend in order to try it out. So far so good.
Thanks for the suggestions. Someone recommended wordpress to me as having more features than the basic Blogger, and Blogger beta is always a possibility. But Blogger's performance the past few days in no way tempts me to try anything else to do with Blogger.
I wonder if the Blogger folks are aware of these complaints. I think I'll wait a day or two and see if things improve before I complain.
Now, back to the matter at hand!
Maxine:
Will Blogger Beta automatically import content from regular Blogger? If I went over to Beta, could I, for example, move the contents of this blog, under the same name, over?
